Mackay footballers Lauren Bella, Jordan Smyth (pictured) and Cody Filewood will be vying for State selection, as the Mackay trio come under the spotlight this weekend on the Gold Coast.
Smyth and Bella are a part of the 60 strong 2015 Youth Girls Academy and will be put through their paces across a 3-day camp which includes a intra-squad game, an opportunity to impress State Coaches.
Filewood will be a part of the Gold Coast SUNS Academy squad that will play the Brisbane Lions Academy in a two match series, vying for selection into the Under 18 Queensland Scorpions squad.
Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said it was exciting times for the region, with the chance of all three representing Queensland this year.
"All three are fantastic footballers and very talented athletes in their own right," Neumann said.
"Filewood is a classy hard running type, who can kick bags of goals and has a terrific work ethic for a young man.
"Lauren Bella is an agile key position type and a player of her ability is rare, at only 15 she has a very bright future.
"Smyth is the wild-card amongst the group, coming from a soccer background she has adapted well to Australian Football with her hard running and uncanny ability to be a step ahead when it comes to reading the play," Neumann added.
