Season 2015 is already shaping up as a massive year for the region, with expansion in our women's competitions and numerous key events taking shape.
However, the region has also had massive change with former AFL Queensland staff Dion Obst and David Harding moving onto bigger and better things in their careers. What this does mean is the region has new faces of them and one of those new faces is Jeff Neumann.
Jeff or 'Jeffro' as he is better known as in his home town of Toowoomba, is a Queenslander through and through, that at the start of this month appointed as the regions new Regional Manager for AFL Queensland.
‘Jeffro’ is a former Rookie Search player, which was identified by AFL Queensland staff in 2005 for representative footy in the school system. From here he has progressed from a Development Officer to AFL Sports Ready trainee, through to a Development Coordinator and now Regional Manager, ten years in the making.
Also an accomplished player and coach, with Neumann receiving the Holman Medal in 2009, the highest individual honour for men's football in the AFL Darling Downs competition.
Neumann also has three club best and fairest to add to his cabinet and a premiership medallion from 2009. One of the best and fairest awards and the premiership was with Coolaroo and the other two honours with his current club South Toowoomba Bombers.
His representative honours include a representation as a former Under 18 Queensland Country Kookaburra and also a season with the Brisbane Lions reserves in 2007.
Coaching, Neumann has set the bar high at a young age with AFL level coaching with the Western Bulldogs women's team along with the Queensland women's side in 2014. And since 2010 he has been with the Queensland Under 18 youth girls team.
A Queenslander that was identified by AFLQ staff like himself, has grown to love our game and he is well and truly entrenched. Neumann idolises Roger Federer, Michael Voss and Nick Vujicic but said his hero is his entire family and in particular his father, who he described as his, best mate.
After 9 years developing the game in the Darling Downs region, Neumann comes to the Mackay region with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Keep an eye out for Jeffro across the region and make sure you say hello.
