AFL Queensland is pleased to announce the commencement of Jeff Neumann as AFL Queensland Regional Manager for the Mackay region.
He comes to the role with a wealth experience, having started his AFL career as a Development Officer in 2005.
Neumann has been the Development Coordinator for the Darling Downs for the past five years and has been instrumental in growing the game throughout the region.
He has secured sponsorship for both the women’s and junior competitions, assisted with two Brisbane Lions community camps, significantly increased NAB AFL Auskick participation and has been a key driver in implementing the talent pathway in the region.
A driving force behind the growth of female football on the Downs, Neumann has coached the Under 18 Queensland youth girls team (2011-2014), the Queensland women’s team (2014) and the Western Bulldogs women’s team in the 2014 AFL exhibition match against Melbourne.
Neumann said he was thrilled with the move and the opportunity to capitalise on the strong growth of Australian Football in the area.
“Participation in Mackay grew by 64% in 2014 and one of our main goals for the region is to continue the development of AFL at a grassroots level through Auskick and club football,” he said.
“There will also be a big focus on growing female football and increasing AFL content to the region.”
Neumann said he is looking forward to his first headline AFL event, the Gold Coast SUNS Australia Post Community Camp on February 26 and 27.
“A group of SUNS players and coaches will visit schools, junior clubs and train with our talent squad ahead of their NAB Challenge match in Townsville,” he said.
“The camp provides fans with an opportunity to meet and engage with their favorite players and it will also be a chance for me to meet members of the local community.”
AFL Queensland CEO Michael Conlan said Neumann would be a major asset to the local football fraternity.
“Jeff has been with the AFL for nine years and has a proven record in driving programs and increasing participation,” said Conlan.
“He is passionate about growing our game and people in the Mackay region can look forward to some great AFL initiatives under his watch.”
