Finals are here at last and I would like to say, a very well done to the sides that have made it to this stage, and commiserations to those sides that have not, we hope your end of season festivities go well.
There are two games this weekend both at Harrup Park, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday, and both potential blockbusters.
The Major Semi is between first placed team on the ladder at the end of the home and away season in the Mackay City Hawks, up against the second placed side, the Eastern Swans.
Both sides have performed well this season with the Hawks finishing the season strongly playing their brand of tough, uncompromising football, and while the Swans started the season very strongly, player unavailability and injury forced their hand, and they finished the season with a couple of losses, however still strong enough to finish second, and overall happy with their position.
The Minor Semi or Elimination Final is between The Moranbah Bulldogs, who have had a great year, and are in the finals for the first time since 1978 a year in which they won the flag, and as it has been a long time between appearances, this is a really great effort from the team out west, and the North Mackay Saints, who have also struggled for numbers this year, but all credit to them for making the finals, and for finishing the year off strongly with a few wins.
As is usual at this time of the year, all teams report big numbers at training and all four sides should be able to field some strong line ups, with coaches and selection committees having almost full squads to select from.
Coaches have a tough job from selecting those that have played all year, and with fielding the best possible side and combination to do the job, we wish them all well.
We have been blessed with great weather this winter, and this weekend should be no exception with predictions for more of the same, all weekend.
Harrup Park is in tip top condition, and while there is a bit of footy to be played this weekend, I am sure the ground staff are up to the challenge.
So the first match at 2.45PM on Saturday is the Mackay City Hawks verses the Eastern Swans, in the flurry of the feathers in what has the potential of being a tremendous tussle.
The second game and an elimination of the loser, is the clash between the Moranbah Bulldogs up against the North Mackay Saints, again with the potential to be a great game, so if footy is your passion, get along to Harrup Park this weekend to see some mighty action between some strong AFL Clubs, and cheer on a local in the best game in town, where the big men fly!
