After last week’s fairly predictable results and by that I mean no upsets, the final four is set to include Mackay City, The Eastern Swans, The Moranbah Bulldogs, and The North Mackay Saints, with the last three teams doing a sterling effort this season despite having issues with trying to fulfil a full squad on limited player availability, and issue that I know effects all teams, but seems to hit the last three even harder this season.
The match of the round this week and in what is the last week of the home and away season, is the clash between the Moranbah Bulldogs at home at Stevenson’s Park Moranbah, against The North Mackay Saints who would just love a win away over the Dogs coming into the finals as the psychological advantage could prove very handy and I feel that the Saints are going to need everything to go their way in order that they advance through the finals campaign.
Moranbah Bulldogs Coach Sebastian Curtis said that while he is happy to have the home ground advantage, his side is not taking this game lightly and the message that Seb has pressed home to his players this week, is just how important this game is, and how a win now works in their favour for later, as they will be playing them again in the finals.
Sebastian said the while he has a nearly full list to select from, every player is on notice that he needs to perform in order to hold his spot for the finals.
The Dogs are primed to do well in this finals series and will be playing to their full capacity to show the other sides that they are here to play.
A spokesman the Saints said that there has been an electric feeling at training this week, and that the whole club is charged with anticipation and excitement at making the finals, and continuing on to the Grand Final, and the entire club are very keen to impress with this game, at they all see it as the beginning of their finals series, and a game they must win.
They have trained very well this week, and have an almost full squad to select from and while they are upbeat and optimistic, the coach realises that his side will need to take their A game to Moranbah and will need to play ferocious footy for the full four quarters, in order to get the chocolates.
Other games this game are the match between Mackay City Hawks against the Whitsunday Sea Eagles at Harrup Park, and the game between The Eastern Swans at home at Rogers Oval against the Northern Beaches Magpies.
It looks like we will be again blessed with the weather and so as this is the last home and away fixture, I once again urge you to get along to a game, and as the finals are just around the corner, go and cheer your favourite team, as there is only five weeks of AFL footy to go.
