The AFL Mackay Match of the Round this week comes via the two teams sitting midway on the ladder, with both having played the equal amount of games, as well as sitting equal on two wins each, with only percentage separating them, and a couple of other teams until completion of this round.
The North Mackay Saints will be at home at Zeolla Park against the traveling Moranbah Bulldogs and with the Saints having a loss last week against the Hawks, they will be keen to atone for that result, and are always a hard unit at home on familiar turf.
The Dogs on the other hand had another narrow loss against the all-conquering Swans last weekend, and they too are intent on showing some improvement, and the best way to do that is by posting a much needed win on the Premiership Ladder.
Moranbah Bulldogs Coach Sebastian Curtis told me once again his side has trained very well this last week in anticipation of this game, and that he and his match committee look to this game as a possible season maker and or breaker, and while not taking the Saints lightly, he does expect his side to win because a result like that puts them into the top four, and once they get there, they intend to stay as they see that as the pathway to the finals.
Sebastian also said that although there are a couple of changes to his run on side, he still has a constant 8 to 10 players who are playing better together each week, and provided they stick to the game plan, as well as tag a couple of the Saints prime movers, they are confident of coming home with win.
While out at Nth Mackay a spokesman close to the coach said that their side too has trained well despite the weather earlier in the week, and with the new gym installed at the club, the boys are feeling stronger than in previous seasons, and feel fitter and much better able to run out a full game.
The Saints feel that they grow an extra leg at home, and as the weather is looking good, they expect to play the wide spaces at Zeolla Park better than a traveling opposition, who have some players unfamiliar to the Saints home ground.
Other games this week are the clash between the Powerful Mackay City Hawks at home at Harrup Park to the Whitsunday Sea Eagles who will be out to prove a point .
And the flurry of the feathers on Sunday with the match between the Nth Mackay Magpies at home at the Magpie Sporting Complex, up against the undefeated Eastern Swans, who along with the Hawks, are having a very good season thus far, and are keen to continue the momentum.
So do yourselves a favour and get along to the footy, where the Big Men Fly !
