With the AFL Mackay season now up to round 7, are the teams at the top of the table secure enough at this stage, or is there a possibility of some mid-season upsets, from some of the other clubs placed at the opposite end of the ladder?
This week sees the AFL Mackay Match of the Round as the game between the second placed Swans, up against the third placed Dogs at home, at the Kennel, at Moranbah.
The Swans won their last encounter earlier this year, and Moranbah are very determined to show just how much they have improved and also just strong their home ground advantage is by sending the visiting teams home with their tails between their losing legs .
Both teams have been going along quite well this season with Moranbah just missing out by mere points, in a couple of close games, while the Swans have won every game played this season and are tracking along a bit under the radar, till now.
Coach of the Swans Brad McLaren said this week that although he expecting a tough game at the Kennel, he thinks that both teams are pretty evenly matched, and his side has a 50/50 chance of coming away with a win.
He also said that team spirit is high as they remain undefeated so far this season, and he said that this was despite the fact that they (Swans) have not yet found their best form and combination of players, so with room to improve, Brad expects to see a stronger and more unified Swans side each time they play. Brad also said that in his opinion this should be a ripper of a game.
While upbeat coach of the Moranbah Bulldogs Sebastian Curtis told me that his squad have trained well this week, andhe felt as though they grow an extra leg when they play at home, and consider the "Home Ground" advantage, even more so for them at Moranbah.
As his team are getting more games under their belt together, they are playing better and better, as can be witnessed by the couple of close games they have played recently.
His side is very keen for a win at home, and although not taking the Swans lightly, Sebastian does expect a win over the Dogs.
Other games this week are the clash of the cellar dwellers the spirited Bakers Creek Tigers, at home at Etwell Park against the Northern Beaches Magpies, and this has the potential to be a great game, while the other match to be played at Harrup Park is the all-conquering Mackay City Hawks verses the North Mackay Saints, who lost a close game last week, and will be keen to atone for that result.
So get along to the footy this weekend and cheer a local that you know !
