AFL MACKAY JUNIORS SEASON COMMENCE FRIDAY 3 MAY
This Friday night sees the commencement of the AFL Mackay Juniors season for the Under 9’s and Under 11’s – and for the first time Under 7’s.
The Under 9’s and Under 11’s each have a 7 team competition – including sides from the surrounding districts of Mackay in Sarina Demons, Pioneer Valley Power and Alligator Creek Bombers.
The Under 7’s start at 5.00pm, Under 9’s at 6.00pm and Under 11’s at 7.00pm – on the main oval under lights at Harrup Park – when AFL superstar Simon Black played last week on ANZAC Day.
The atmosphere on a Friday night is electric with up to 4 games being played at one time – with boys and girls showing their skills in their Club colours, while being cheered on by parents, family members and supporters.
Participation in the Junior grades gives all players a chance to continue to develop their skills, meet new friends, having fun while staying active and being involved within a club environment.
Almost all players have participated in the popular Auskick program and this is the ‘next step’ in their AFL development.
The games are played under modified rules and in zones enabling all participants the even opportunity to get involved with the game, and take a mark, have a kick and fire out a hand pass.
All games are officiated by qualified umpires and are played under the AFL Mackay zero tolerance code of conduct – creating a safe and enjoying atmosphere for all involved.
If you know of someone that is interested please do not hesitate to contact the AFL Mackay office on 4951 0622 or your local AFL Club for more details.
