3 Mackay Umpires announced in the squad for the inaugural QLD Country Umpiring Academy.
The Academy has been chosen from a number of nominations from Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville. Umpires have been selected based on their commitment to their umpiring, and their potential to progress to higher levels of football.

The Squads will all receive the same coaching at both the U16s and U14s Country Championships from AFL Queensland Umpire Development Staff, and will also receive monthly coaching online. The online sessions will be based on what is delivered at the South East Queensland Academy sessions. A further email will be sent to the Academy umpires over the next couple of weeks regarding how the coaching sessions can be accessed.
The Academy will be managed by Pierce Field, with coaching provided from SEQ Academy Coach Troy Friend and other umpire coaches across Queensland. In 2014, it is anticipated that we will have a North Queensland based coach.
Attached is a document outlining the newly restructured QLD Country Umpire Pathway, which shows how umpires can reach Senior Community, NEAFL and ultimately AFL football.
Congratulations to all umpires selected. We look forward to watching the Academy becoming an established part of the AFL Queensland Umpire Pathway.
Kind Regards
Pierce Field
Community Umpiring Development Officer
