The Brisbane Lions, in partnership with BMA and AFL Queensland visited Moranbah and the Central Highlands last week to further promote the growth of AFL in the region. It was also an opportunity the thank and reward the fantastic AFL Auskick participants and parents in regional Queensland, with record participants in 2012!
The Lions visited and conducted AFL sessions and 'Lion Hearted Leaders' classes at Moranbah SS, Moranbah East and Moranbah State High. The travelling party, consisting of players Matthew Leuenberger, Mitch Golby and veteran Jamie Charman as well as the Lions CEO Malcolm Holmes, Communities Officer Adam Spackmann and AFL Queensland's Game Development Manager Troy Clarke. The lions tour proved to be a huge success with the local community embracing AFL football and impressing the lions contingent.
The tour also included a Brisbane Lions Super clinic and BBQ dinner hosted by the Moranbah Bulldogs AFC. The Brisbane Lions Community BBQ breakfast in the town square drew a healthy and hungry crowd the next morning. The Lions visit was an outstanding success and we would like to thank all parties involved in the two day event. AFL in North Queensland is on the rise, let's continue to support our great game throughout the region.
