The North Queensland Secondary Schools Cup (NQSSC) will get underway today, Wednesday, 11 July at Watsons Oval. Over 300 students from schools in Townsville, Mackay, Cairns and surrounds will compete in a four day carnival, with the Grand Final played as the curtain-raiser to the AFL Premiership Match on Saturday 14 July at Cazalys Stadium.
In its second year, the NQSSC provides the students with sporting, social and occupational outcomes. Just under one third of students participating in the championships are Indigenous with one of the schools being classed as an Indigenous college.
The schools are: Bentley Park College, Cairns SHS, Djarragun College, Ignatius Park College (Townsville), Kirwan College (Townsville), Mossman SHS, Pioneer SHS (Mackay), St Andrews College, St Augustines College, Smithfield SHS, Trinity Bay SHS and William Ross SHS (Townsville).
