Chairman’s Report
Well here we are at Harrup Park for the representative game between the Mackay Crows and the Capricornia team from Rockhampton. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both the men’s and ladies rep teams from Rockhampton to Mackay and hope they enjoy their time in Mackay.
I would also like to thank John Round the president of the Capricornia league for being a strong advocate of rep footy and getting behind the game as it is important that the players get to show their talent at the next level.
Today will be a fantastic day of footy starting with the under 14 country carnival commencing at 9.00am and finishing at 4.00pm. We will then be having the inaugural ladies rep game between Mackay and Rockhampton kicking off at 5.00pm. This is a fantastic innovation and congratulations need to go to John Round, Rocky chairman, and David Harding for getting this off the ground.
The ladies game is a new concept for Mackay and we look forward to the game. It will be tough for the Mackay team as they have not played together before but have been training for a few weeks now. The Rockhampton ladies have been playing in a local competition for a couple of years so will be tough to beat but I am sure the Mackay team will be very competitive and good luck ladies.
The Rocky chairman tells me they are bringing a very strong side and are the current holders of the shield and are confident they can retain the trophy and if they can produce the likes of Zachary Smith the young tyro for the Gold Coast Suns then they will be very hard to beat. The coach of the Mackay team David (penguin) Harding has picked a very strong squad and has had 25 – 30 at training for the last few weeks and Mackay can also boast a hardened AFL player in David Armitage currently playing for St Kilda. The boys are chomping at the bit to play and testing themselves against some of the best regional players in QLD. I think with the home ground advantage and the presence of a big home crowd the Crows should win by 19 points.
I am sure we see a highly skilled and hard fought contest and I wish the best of luck to all teams and umpires this weekend
Go the Crows
