Well on Saturday our under 18,s finally got to play some footy after a long 2 months of training. The day started out being fantastic, everything was ready for 2 great games. The ground was in great condition and then by 3.00pm and the start of game 1: MACKAY v TOWNSVILLE the Heavens opened up.
The Crows were committed from the first bounce to the last but lapses of concentration cost us dearly particularly in the second quarter. Final scores Townsville 7. 2. 44 to Mackay 3.3.21. Goal Kickers: Mat Palmer, Brendan Riddle and Brendan Edwards one each. Best Players: Nick Muscat, Hayden Lang, Liam Wade, Sam McCann, Brodie Tebutt and Josh Partridge.
Game 2 was played in very wet and heavy conditions which certainly suited the fresher team Capricornia we certainly never gave up but our skill level and our willingness to work for each other was well down. A real reality check to all our players in this region we need to work harder in aspects of the game. Four of our under 16,s really played well over the 2 games Zac Jackson, Liam Wade, Bo Hall and Callum Dick all presented themselves really well. A good learning Experience for these young men. Final Scores Capricornia 8.2.50 to Mackay 1.2.8 Goal kicker Sam Stewart. Best Players: Sam McCann, Brodie Tebutt, Josh Partridge, Luke Adamson, Zac Jackson and Callum Dick.
Overall a disappointing result but a real wake up call for everyone involved in football in this Region but a real positive is that most of this group will be back next year so with 12 months of hard work we will turn around both results. This will then give us the opportunity to get more players selected and further their Representative Careers.
Six Players made the Central QLD team Sam McCann, Mat Sondergeld and Mathew Sturgeon from the Eastern Swans, Hayden Lang , Andergrove Kangaroos, Brodie Tebutt and Josh Partridge from the Whitsunday Football Club .
Thanks to Brad McLaren and all of his coaching staff our Trainer young Chicken and Team Manager Darren Jackson. Last but not least Rod Jenkins and the North Mackay Football Club who were Fantastic hosts and there support has been greatly appreciated.
