After being ahead by five goals at halftime, the Townsville Eagles held off a fast finishing Mackay Crows side to win 83- 70 and retain the Muldoon Family Shield.
T h e 5 0 0 p e o p l e a t T o n y Ireland Stadium on Saturday night were treated to an exciting and highly- skilled match, which Townsville AFL’S elder statesmen, John Durkin, said was the highest quality they had seen played in the North.
Townsville centre half- back Jae Butler- Evans, who took home the Doug Pearce Medal for the game’s best player, was sensational for the Eagles in the biennial match, keeping Mackay’s forwards in check and setting up plenty of run out of half- back.
