After an exciting 15 rounds the 2008 AFL Capricornia Finals series is gearing up. The first round of the finals will be played at Kele Park this weekend where teams must win if they want to keep their premiership dreams alive. The main game of the day will be the A Grade game between the Panthers and the Gladstone Mudcrabs. Both teams played each other last week with the Mudcrabs getting over the line by 2 goals at Clinton Park in Gladstone. The midfield of Gladstone will be important with star players Ricky Windridge, Charlie Johnstone and Nick Stanley. Gladstone also has a solid Ruck combination Jason Smallcoombe, Elisha Yasso and Ben Coles all capable of dominating a game. The Mudcrabs also have good forward options that are capable of kicking a winning score.
The reigning premiers Panthers will look to experience with a core of last years premiership winning players still at the club. It will be a battle of the midfields with panthers boasting Bernie Gottke medalists Liam Cronk and Clinton Evans. Lyle Clifford, Ben Kneen and Clint Sutton will also spend time in the middle. Forward Chris Heaslip has been good for the Panthers after kicking 6 goals on the weekend while Anthony Smart will be an important player down in the backline. It will be a close game and will come down to which forward line will make the most of the quality delivery provided from the middle. In the Reserve Grade Panthers will also come up against Gladstone, the Panthers have the form over Gladstone after beating them by 49 points. Other games on the day include:
U/17: Yeppoon V Gladstone
U/15: Glenmore V Brothers
U/13: Panthers V Glenmore
