After five rounds of the Trend Interiors Carpet & Tile Court AFL Capricornia Competition we are starting to see which teams are going to play finals football and which teams are making up the numbers. There were some close games on the weekend with Glenmore beating Yeppoon by 1 point down at Swan Park. Glenmore controlled the football and dominated in the first quarter piling on 8 goals to 1. Dave Stevens and Dean Woosnam worked well in the forward fifty along with Greg Piggott. After the first quarter however it was all Yeppoon as they slowly clawed back into the game. Yeppoon’s younger players Tom Watkins, Chris Blanchard, Dylan Bibby and Cam Watkins were prominent in the midfield with quality possessions while Glenmore were poor with their use of the football. Glenmore’s backline managed to weather the storm with Shayne Fowler, Ben Burns and Scott Thompson key players. Best Players for Yeppoon were Jacob Miller, Chris Blanchard and Tom Watkins.
Panthers took on Gladstone at the Rockhampton Cricket Ground in what was an important game to both sides in terms of ladder positions. Panthers dominated from the start of the game with 5 goals to Gladstone’s 1 goal. The Mudcrabs struggled to match it with Panthers for the rest of the game with Panthers maintaining a 7 goal lead the majority of the time. Best players for Panthers consisted of the regulars Lyle Clifford, Clint Sutton and Barry Morris. Gladstone could take something out of the game with strong performances from younger players Shane and Steven Eilola. The result put Panthers into second position while Gladstone slides down to fourth on the ladder.
At Kele Park Brothers provided a better performance after last week’s result against Yeppoon. BITS Saints eventually beat brothers by 75 points kicking 12 goals in the last half of the game. Darren Boase and Joel Jeffery worked well in the forward line kicking 5 and 4 goals respectively. Danny Anderson continued his good form this year and was well supported by Paul Caveny and Adam Dickenson. Brothers played a number of youngsters with Logan Thornborrow outstanding kicking four goals. Best players for brothers were Adam Williams, Tony Boole and Micheal Moore.
After 5 rounds BITS Saints are on top of the ladder closely followed by Panthers, Glenmore and Gladstone. Yeppoon are fifth with Brothers last, yet to get a win on the board. In the Reserves Glenmore were too strong for Yeppoon, Gladstone beat Panthers and BITS Saints defeated Brothers. Thank you to everyone who participated in “Positive or Pointless” weekend and let’s continue to direct positive comments to players, coaches and umpires.
