GLADSTONE VS YEPPOON
The home crowd must have been confident of a Mudcrab victory, as the crabs started the game showing few nerves and peppering the goals. They managed to kick 7 goals in the first quarter to Yeppoon's 3, but it was the missed chances that the Mudcrabs would be ruing. Had they kicked straighter the game could have been all over at quarter time.
Instead the 2nd quarter saw the momentum turn to the Swans, with their running game starting to get on top and their big men up forward starting to stamp their authority. Yeppoon were able to kick 8 goals while holding Gladstone scoreless, and amazingly went into the main break holding a 4 goal lead.
The 2nd half saw the game turn into an arm wrestle with neither team able to kick away. Gladstone were able to kick a further 5 goals in the premiership quarter which had them going into the last holding a 7 point lead. Once again poor kicking let them down as they kicked a further 5 behinds.
The last quarter had the crowd on the edge of their seats, Yeppoon was throwing everything at the Mudcrabs but the home side were doing enough to keep their noses in front, that was until the last 5 minutes. The constant pressure applied by the Swans finally cracked Gladstone, with the Swans kicking the last couple of goals to find themselves 5 points in front when the siren sounded. The final siren demonstrated the contrasting emotions of football, the Swans were obviously elated and the Gladstone team were absolutely gut wrenched and would have been asking if only we had converted our chances.
Best performers for the Swans were Wes Hawke (7 goals), Daniel Watkin (3 goals), Matt Wallin and Cameron Watkin. For Gladstone Daniel Clay (4 goals), Stephen Eiola (2 goals) and Jason Smallcombe.
Prediction: Gladstone by 7 points
Result: Yeppoon by 5 points
