AFL CAPRICORNIA TREND INTERIORS CARPET AND TILE COURT ROUND 12 AND 13 WRAP UP
Round 12 and 13 proved to be two very influential rounds on the AFL Capricornia ladder and it seems to have settled out the top 4. Two losses by Glenmore saw them slip from 2nd spot to 4th with Panthers and BITS separated by one game with the winner securing second spot. Yeppoon have continued there form with only a minor slip up against Panthers at the RCG by 3 points in Round 12. With only two games to go neither Brothers nor Gladstone can make the finals with both clubs fighting for pride and trying to avoid the wooden spoon.
Round 12
Gladstone Mudcrabs 11.20.86 defeated Glenmore Bulls 9.11.65 @ Clinton Park
A spirited Gladstone side took the field at Clinton Park against Glenmore looking for a win to keep their season alive and rule out any chances of claiming the wooden spoon. With goals being kicked with breeze all day it looked hard to see how Gladstone were going to win the match with the breeze and a 9 point lead favoring Glenmore in the last quarter. The Bulls came out looking to put the sword to Gladstone’s season but with the Eilola brothers standing tall with help from Chirgwin, Coles and Stanley in the midfield as well as Taylor and Clay off the half back line the Mudcrabs sealed the game to run out comfortable 21 point winners. Best players were Cutuli, Shane Eilola, Coles, Taylor, Steve Eilola and Chirgwin for Gladstone while the lone rangers for Glenmore were Tyson Payne, Hills, Baldwin, Imrie, Williams and Stevens.
Panthers 13.8.86 defeated Yeppoon Swans 12.11.83 @ RCG
Things looked difficult for a Panthers side looking to redeem there disappointing loss against Glenmore as they faced top of the table Yeppoon missing some very important players. Recent history favored Panthers though with Panthers getting on the right side of the ledger in their Round 7 encounter and this proved to be important as the match seesawed all day and was tight for the duration of the match. Yeppoon seemed to run out of puff in the final quarter as Panthers rallied coming back from a 20 point 3 quarter time deficit to clinch the match late by 3 points. Best players for Panthers were Sutton, Kaufman, Dunnett, Morris, Ryan and Schumacher while the best for Yeppoon were Bibby, Robertson, Cam Watkin, Higgins and Hawke.
Brothers 7.4.46 defeated by BITS Saints 13.21.99 @ Kele Park
Brothers were looking to find the form which saw them comfortably beat BITS in their earlier encounter at Kele Park this season. However, this wouldn’t be the case with BITS travelling well and a more determined mindset BITS looked to keep everyone in AFL Capricornia aware that they are still a premiership contender. BITS started slow but controlled the game after quarter time and had it not been for some poor kicking at goal could have easily ran away much more comfortable winners as they ran in their sixth win of the season by 53 points. Best players for Brothers were Williams, Dawson, Spellman, Pollock, Adams, Newsome while the best for BITS were Boase, Shipard, Thredgold, Mills, Hall and Murphy,
Reserves
In the reserve grade Glenmore proved too strong for a late finishing Gladstone 11.9.75 to 10.9.69 at Clinton Park, BITS continued their undefeated season comfortably disposing of Brothers 17.11.113 to 3.2.20 while Yeppoon kept their claim for a top two finish alive beating Panthers 12.7.79 to 8.5.53.
Round 13
BITS Saints 10.14.74 defeated Glenmore 9.6.60 @ BITS Country Club
This match saw the 3rd and 4th place teams square off looking to secure 3rd spot and keep their chances alive for a top 2 spot and a major semi final birth. The game proved to be tight with the previous two encounters being decided late in the match and the results being under 2 goals. This game was no different with the breeze playing a big part in the game and making it difficult for goals to be kicked. Come half time only 4 goals had been kicked with BITS holding a useful 16 point lead. The game closed up in the third quarter with Glenmore using the ball better while pulling the BITS lead back to just 5 points. BITS poor kicking from the first three quarters disappeared in the last as they managed to turn the momentum into their favor and pile on quick goals to skip free of Glenmore. Some late goals by the Bulls weren’t enough as the Saints took the game out by 14 points. Best players for the Saints were Dickenson, McClure, Gray, Thredgold, Bywaters and Andersen while for the Bulls the best were Piggott, Baldwin, Hills, Mackrill, Payne and Woosnam.
Brothers 9.6.60 defeated by Panthers 19.13.121 @ Kele Park
Panthers certainly came to play against a lackluster Brothers outfit at Kele Park. The first term saw Panthers assert their dominance around the ground with great work across half back and through the midfield setting up a handy 7 goal lead. Brothers came out a little better after a good old fashioned spray from the coach having one less scoring shot than Panthers for the quarter in which Panthers looked to build on their lead continually. With the sting taken out of the match buy half time Brothers looked to the young brigade to lift and show a bit of pride. With a much improved and consistent effort from Brothers in the second half and panthers taking their foot of the accelerator the game finished with both teams looking to the next week and what lies ahead.
Yeppoon Swans 15.22.122 defeated Gladstone Mudcrabs 8.5.53 @ Swan Park
Yeppoon put their loss to Panthers behind them as they thrashed Gladstone at Swan Park. With goals always difficult to come by at Swan Park the Swans used the ball far more superior as they opened up more shots at goal outscoring the Muddies by 19 scoring opportunities. The Swans started the match better with their poor kicking keeping the Mudcrabs in the match. From there the Swans managed to win every quarter of the match as they ran out comfortable 69 point victors in front of their home crowd. Best players for Yeppoon were Cam Watkin, Hawke, Dan Watkin, Nicholls, Wallin and Bibby while for the Muddies the best were Shane Eilola, Clay, Coles, Saddlier, Steve Eilola and Chirgwin.
Reserves
In the reserves BITS made it 13-0 as they defeated a gallant Glenmore 10.12.72 to 8.9.57 at BITS, Yeppoon demolished an understrength Gladstone outfit 25.14.164 to 1.1.7. In the final match of the round Panthers continued their claim for a top two spot with a convincing win over Brothers at Kele Park 18.13.121 to 5.3.33.
