Round 1 of the Trend Interiors & Tile Court Kicked off on the weekend with last year's premiers BITS taking on Panthers in the grand final rematch. With how the two teams lined up on paper before game day everyone was looking forward to a close encounter between the previous season's heavy weights. The contest proved exactly that for the first three quarters in what looked to be a free scoring affair until BITS piled on 8 goals to 2 in the final quarter to come out winners by 79 points. Kaufman was dangerous in the panther's forward line kicking four and was well supported further up the ground by Sutton and Sander. Mean while for BITS Nathan Shipard had a day out in front of goal kicking 7 being well supported by Dickenson with 4 and Daniel Hunt.
The next game of the round was played off by the last two of last year's finalists. Glenmore took on Gladstone at a fantastic looking Stenlake Park. Glenmore came out to put last year's disappointing finals series behind them in the first quarter going out to a two and a half goal lead at quarter time. With Gladstone still in touch it was shaping up to be a close encounter. Glenmore had other ideas putting their foot on the gas for the remainder of the day to run out convincing winners by 78 points. Piggott 4 and Mackrill 3 were useful in front of goal for the bulls while Tyson Payne and Shane Thompson did the damage through the midfield for the bulls. Charlie Johnstone was the best of the forwards for Gladstone while Sadlier worked hard through the midfield along with first gamer Daniel Clay.
The last game of the round was between the cellar dwellers for the 2008 season Brothers and Yeppoon. The game promised to be a physical encounter if last year's matches were anything to go by and the two sides failed to disappoint in the close first quarter. It was Brothers at the first change by a solitary goal. The Swans regrouped in the second stanza piling on 7 goals to the Brothers 2. It is said that the Brother's coach could be heard on the top of mount archer in his half time address to his chargers. It was to no avail with Brothers being out played by the faster and more agile Swans outfit for the rest of the day with the swans finishing off the game in spectacular style with an 8 goal last quarter. Hawk 4 and Blanchard 4 enjoyed their time in the forward line while it was Hawk, Mylrea and Watkins did the damage to Brothers through the midfield. Bennet and Matherson worked hard for Brothers while and Dumseny 2 and Scott Smithwick were serviceable for Brothers up forward.
There are no games this coming weekend due to Easter. Round two has Panthers V's Glenmore in A night fixture, Gladstone V's Brothers and Yeppoon V's BITS.
