Only 3 weeks into the year and the ladder is starting to look familiar with last years top teams back out in front. Yeppoon remain undefeated so far this season continuing their premiership form whilst BITS have won their past two games after losing to Yeppoon in their opening round.
The first game of the weekend between Gladstone and Yeppoon proved a fantastic game for the first three quarters of football. Both teams were finding plenty of the football through the middle of the ground, however with both defences on top Gladstone had a 4 point lead at half time in a low scoring encounter.
Gladstone had struggled so far in the third quarter this year and it was vital that they come out firing against Yeppoon. Both teams came out hard at the break trying to gain advantage and it was Yeppoon who managed to keep Gladstone without a goal for the quarter and kicked a couple themselves. The final quarter proved that Yeppoon's hard running was too strong for Gladstone and with some unaccountability by the Muddies through the middle allowed Yeppoon to run out five goal winners.
The second game had Brothers secure their first win of the year in devastating fashion, thrashing Panthers by 79 points. Brothers had shown glimpses of their capability in the opening rounds however proved to everyone that they have the ability to challenge all teams in the competition.
With an even contribution all over the ground and seven different multiple goalkickers, the options up forward proved to much for Panthers. The Panthers now face an uphill battle. They have Gladstone at home next game and this could make or break their year.
The final game had BITS travelling to Stenlake Park to take on the undefeated Bulls. In the end BITS proved to strong for Glenmore and won by 6 goals. Miles Clarke one of a number of good young players coming through at BITS kicked five for the winners whilst Paul Caveny and Danny Hunt found plenty of the footy.
Isaac Kielly continued his good form and was amongst the best for Glenmore, however with BITS improving there just weren't enough contributors for the Bulls.
With a weeks break for the representative game teams will be looking for a solid couple of weeks on the training track in preparation for their next game.
