Capricornia’s best takes on state at Under 14’s Championship while playing for the Under 14 Country Kookaburras
9th July 2009.
The 2009 Under 14 AFL Queensland State Championships concluded on Friday with the Western Taipans taking out the Grand Final against the South Eastern Bushrangers at Surfers Paradise Football Club.
As the first big step in the AFL Player Pathway put in place by AFL Queensland, the carnival acted as a stage for the talented junior footballers to prove their worth against other players from as far as Port Douglas, Cairns and Papua New Guinea.
The Grand Final proved to be a one sided affair as the Western Taipans kept the South East Bushrangers goal less for the first quarter and continued to dominate throughout the second half with key forward Bill Pendlebury bagging 8 goals and best on field honours.
Capricornia was represented in the championships by Hamish Davidson (CQU Panthers) and Brandon Chadwick (Glenmore Bulls) playing for the Country Kookaburras. Also representing the region was Josh Herrington (Yeppoon Swans) playing in the AFLQ Colts team. Hamish had a great championship getting plenty of football through the midfield and was productive while resting up forward with a couple of goals for the championship. Brandon played most of his football across the half forward and half back lines and provided plenty of run in both positions. Josh played most of the carnival up forward for the colts kicking one goal in his first game
Aaron Dore coach of the country Kookaburras believed that all teams put in a superb effort and was happy with his team’s performance throughout the week.
“The boys worked hard and came up against some superb teams, but we stuck to it and fought until the final siren of each game,” he said.

The Academy utilises the Brisbane Lions facilities and teaches those involved how to better themselves and their football through areas such as nutrition, leadership, coaching and analysis.
Along with the Lions Academy, a player or players may be given the Michael Voss Scholarship. These are given to junior footballers who show exceptional football and athletic qualities and are designed to assist players reach their goal of playing AFL football in the years to come.
With the help of the under 14 State Championships, this goal has now been realised by countless Queensland AFL players who developed their abilities through the Player Pathway and achieved success at the highest level.
