The final four are locked in and ready to go after Round 14 Results of the Trend Interiors Carpet & Tile Court AFL Capricornia Competition. The finals will be contested between the top of the table Bits Saints, Glenmore Bulls, Panthers and Gladstone Mudcrabs. Brothers bid for a miraculous finals spot ended with a Wes Hawke kick after the siren which stole the game away Brothers.
In a high scoring game down at Boyne Island Oval BITS Saints continued their winning form with a 6 point win over the Gladstone Mudcrabs. The BITS Saints were in control of the game for the majority of the first half taking in a 23 point lead at half time. Gladstone fought back in the second half with Aaron Barrett leading the charge kicking 7 goals for the game. At three quarter time the scores were tight with BITS holding a 17 point lead. The high scoring continued in the last quarter with Gladstone going down by a single goal. The goal scoring was spread out evenly between the BITS Saints players with Nathan Shippard kicking 4 and Darren Boase, Daniel Boase and Lucas Hall kicking 3 goals each. Jason Smallcombe and Charlie Johnstone were good for the Muddies while Derek Brown and Paul Cavney were named in the best players for BITS Saints.
At Swan Park Yeppoon started of well against Brothers kicking 3 goals to 1 goal in the first quarter. Brothers came back in the second quarter kicking five goals and were only down by 7 points at half time. Brothers continued their charge in the third quarter wrestling back the lead through forwards Paul Maloney and Scott and Steve Smithwick. Yeppoon could have had a comfortable lead at three quarter time if it wasn’t for their inaccurate kicking. The Roos had their opportunities in the last quarter however Yeppoon held on to the win thanks to a Wes Hawke kick after the siren. Daniel Watkin was superb in front of goal bagging 7 majors and was well supported by his brother Cameron Watkin. Paul Maloney, Matt Coleman and Cameron Stitt were named best for Brothers.
In the battle for second spot on the ladder Glenmore were victorious over the Panthers at the Rockhampton Cricket Ground. Panthers were dominant early and took a two goal lead into the first break. In the second quarter it was all Glenmore with the Bulls pilling on 7 goals to Panthers single point. The Panthers matched the Bulls on the scoreboard but were unable to make up for their second quarter fadeout. Dean Woosnam was good for the Bulls kicking 8 goals while Chris Heaslip kicked 6 goals for the Panthers.
With the results on the weekend it looks like the positions of the top four have been finalized. Glenmore would have to have a big loss to Yeppoon and Panthers would have to beat Gladstone if they where any chance of taking second place. In Reserve grade results Yeppoon beat Brothers, Glenmore were pumped by the Panthers and Gladstone upset the BITS Saints.
