After round 5 of matches in the Trend Interiors AFL Capricornia season all teams have played each other once and the bottom two sides from 2006 find themselves well intrenched in the top four.
One thing is certain the race for the premiership is wide open with any one of the the teams from first through to fifth having a chance of winning the comp on their day.
Gladstone and Panthers last and second last respectivley in 2006 are enjoying some early success while last years grand finalist Brothers and reigning premiers BITS are finding the going tougher in 2007.
Yeppoon are staying under the radar sitting second with four wins from 5 starts while the Glenmore Bulls have started the season slowly with one win from 5 starts but will be optimistic they have alot to build on with the close losses they have been involved in.
The round 5 match of the week lived up to all expectations with the Gladstone Mudcrabs the big improvers of 2007 edging out last years premiers the BITS Saints by 5 points at Clinton Park.
The Mudcrabs jumped out of the blocks in the first quater kicking five goals to the Saints one for the term with Mudcrab forward Aaren Barett kicking 3 for the term. After the first quater the match was an arm wrestle with the Muddies holding off the fast finishing Saints.
Ricky Windridge was a key to the victory for the Muddies while their defence keeping Darren Boase to only one goal was also vital to the victory. For the Saints youngester Justin Mounjoy and Scott Muller were significant contributors.
At Stenlake Park the undermanned Glenmore Bulls fell 2 goals short of knocking off the second placed Yeppoon Swans in an entertaining high scoring affair.
The Bulls missing several of their regular senior playing group pushed the Swans for the entire mach but could not overun the Swanies who maintained control for most of the match.
Every time the Bulls challenged the Swans were able to answer keeping a two goal buffer for most of the game. For the Swans it was their young brigade once again that caused most of the damage lead by Daniel and Cam Watkin, Chris Blanchard and the inform Trent Rapp.
Bulls gun recruit Dean Woosnam all most got the Bulls over the line single handedly kicking 9 goals while Lachlan Moore gave the bulls plenty of drive through the midfield.
Brothers hosted the Panthers at Kele Park in the local derby and came out all guns blazing kicking 3 of the first 4 goal of the match to catch the Panthers off guard. The young Roos looked very sharp and detrmined to cause a major boil over.
From that point on the Panthers completley dominated a scrappy affair played in difficult windy condition to overpower the Roos by 20 goals. Clinton Ennis proved unstoppable kicking nine goals benifiting form the hard work Marcus Britt and Liam Kronk were doing around the ground.
To the Roos credit they never stopped trying all day kicking their highest score for the year. Paul Maloney and Matt Coleman worked tirelesly for the Roos giving them some options out of deffence and in attack.
This weeks round six games see the BITS Saints hosting Brothers, the Bulls travling to the Rocky Cricket Ground to play the Panthers and in the match of the round the 2nd placed Yeppoon Swans hit the road to tackle the third placed Gladstone Mudcrabs at Clinton Park.
