Round 5 of the Trend Interiors Carpet Court AFL Capricornia season is being played this weekend with the Port Curtis derby between BITS and Gladstone at Clinton Park the match of the round. In other games Glenmore host Yeppoon at Stenlake Park and the Panthers travel to Kele Park to take on Brothers.
Gladstone AFC vs BITS AFC
Shaping as the match of the round these two sides currently both boast a two win two loss record and will be desperate for the four points on offer and bragging rights over their close neighbor. The Muddies have started the season very well with a number of new recruits and young players performing well are improving each week and full of confidence after their round four win over the Glenmore Bulls in Rockhampton. The Saints will be keen to continue their recent dominance over the Muddies and consolidate their spot in the top four. The Saints with two losses for the year will be upbeat about their round four loss to the Panthers in a match they quite easily could have won. The Muddies will need to at least break even with the BITS midfield and cut the supply off to the evergreen Darren Boase if they are to come away with the win, while for the Saints they will need to match the enthusiasm of the young Muddies.
Glenmore AFC V Yeppoon AFC
The Glenmore Bulls will be hoping to record their first win of the year on home soil when they take on the second place Swans at Stenlake Park. The Bulls who were soundly beaten by the Muddies at home last week will be desperate for the four points and looking to their senior players of Ben Tickner, Toby Payne, Ben Janetzski and Aaren Russell to lead by example and lift their younger players. The Swans are sitting pretty well at present with 3 wins from four starts for the year and will want to continue the momentum they are generating. The Swans were in devastating from last week with Trent Rapp and Wes Hawke in ominous form both kicking 7 goals and will take some beating. The Bulls need to put four solid quarters together against the Swanies and find some key match ups for Hawke and Rapp if they are to take the four points.
Brothers AFC vs Panthers AFC
Brothers currently find themselves in unfamiliar territory from recent seasons on the bottom of the AFL Capricornia ladder with no wins from four starts, The Roos have suffered from injuries so far in 2007 but it does not get any easier for the Roos this week taking on the Panthers who are four wins from four starts. Despite the ladder positions this match promises to be a hard fought contest with both sides desperate to come away with the four points and establish the mental edge over their cross town rivals. The Panthers will need to find adequate match ups for Paul Maloney, Garry Turnbul and Dwayne Adams who have all been in fine form, while for Brothers they will need to stop the midfield of Liam Kronk, Clinton Evans and Clinton Sutton for the Panthers who supply the Panthers forward line with plenty of ball.
