Round 2 of the Brisbane Lions Cup sees Mt Morgan enter the Brisbane Lions cup for the first time. For the first time since the high school competitions inception Mt Morgan has entered a team in team. It was great to see the boys running out there with having so much fun and competing for the first time. In what was Mt Morgan’s first game it was a fantastic effort. The boys are on a steep learning curve for this season tough and this was proven with an unglamorous first up result against TCC going down 2 points to 85. Best players from Mt Morgan were Nathan O’Brien, Brad Leggo and Jamie Blake.
Two other games were also played in the second round of the Brisbane Lions cup with Rockhampton high taking on St Brendan’s at Stenlake Park. The game was played with a very high intensity form both sides, but St Brendan’s continued their winning form running out winners 81 points to 7. Angelo Toby stared again for St Brendan’s with 5 Goals. Rockhampton high tried hard all day with John Sleeford and Ethan Rose playing well.
Yeppoon took on North Rockhampton high down at St Brendan’s and after a slight false start play got under way with north Rockhampton bursting out of the blocks to a five goal lead at quarter time. Darcy Payne seemed to be everywhere and Jed Watkins for Yeppoon was working hard down back. Yeppoon to their credit fought back hard in the second and third quarter lead buy Luke Lambert and Hayden Kear to get back within three goals at three quarter time. The fourth quarter was a hard fought contest; Darcy Payne turned it on for North rocky in the first five minutes getting a number of vital clearances which was enough to sink any hope of Yeppoon getting up. In the end it was north Rockhampton running out winners 80 points to 44.
