The finishing positions of the final four are still unclear after round 12 of the Trend Interiors Carpet and Tile Court AFL Capricornia competition. There is still also the slight possibility that Brothers could make the finals after they continued their winning ways against Gladstone on the weekend. The AFL Capricornia ladder has Panthers sitting on top on 32 points with BITS Saints second on 30, Glenmore on 28 and Gladstone on 26 points. At Stenlake Park an inform BITS Saints took on Glenmore Bulls in what was an important match for both sides. The Saints had the better start and took a 9 point lead into the first break. BITS continued to have the upper hand over Glenmore for the majority of the first half with Daniel Boase contributing well to the Saints 10 point lead at the half. The Bulls came back in the third quarter and were well led by coach Dean Woosnam. With the scores level at three quarter time it would be a close finish with both sides getting out to what looked like a winnable lead in the last quarter. When the final siren went the game couldn’t be decided with both sides locked at 15.11 apiece. Nathan Shippard and Hayden Coleman were good for the Saints while Ben Burns and Scott Thomson were named in Glenmore’s best.
Brothers continued the second half of the season turn around with an impressive win over Gladstone at Clinton Park. Brothers started of the better team and were dominant in the first half applying a lot of scoreboard pressure. The Roos went into the rooms at half time with a handy 27 point lead. Gladstone fought back with Charlie Johnstone and Anthony Caleiro working well in the forward line. The muddies had their chances to run over the top of the Roos getting to within two goals at three quarter time however Brothers were able to hold out winning by 17 points. Scott Smithwick kicked 4 goals for Brothers and was well supported by Jason Dawson. Jason Smallcombe and Reece Sadlier tried hard for Gladstone.
At Swan Park the Panthers took top spot of BITS with a hard fought 15 point win over the Yeppoon Swans. The Panthers were in control for the majority of the first half keeping a two goal break on the Swans for the majority of the time. Liam Cronk was dominant around the ground, controlling the stoppages. The Swans pushed the Panthers in the third quarter and were down by only 9 points at three quarter time. The experience of the Panthers prevailed in the last quarter with the Panthers kicking 4 goals to Yeppoon’s 3 goals. Rod Chapman and Trevor Robertson were among the Best for Yeppoon while Klynt Curd and Jamie Waarsdorp were good for the Panthers.
In the Reserves the BITS Saints had their first loss of the season against an inform Glenmore side. The Muddies defeated a depleted Brothers line up while Yeppoon were too strong for the Panthers. Next weeks games:
