Round 10 of the Trend Interiors Carpet and Tile Court AFL Capricornia competition saw a number of teams cement their position in the top four. All winning teams were dominant against their opposition with large winning margins. Panthers proved that they are still the team to beat with a strong win over a depleted Gladstone Mudcrabs lineup. It was a tight game for the majority of the first half with Panthers taking in a 16 point lead at half-time. The second half was a one-sided affair with Panther keeping Gladstone goalless. Forward Chris Heaslip had a great game for Panthers kicking 6 goals and being named one of the best. Nathan Smith and Shane Eilola tried hard for Gladstone.
At Swan Park Glenmore made Yeppoon’s attempt for a final four spot even harder with a 48 point win. It was a hard fought first quarter with little splitting the two teams on the scoreboard. Glenmore started to get on top in the second quarter through forwards Dean Woosnam and Dave Stevens. Yeppoon struggled in the second half kicking 3 goals to Glenmore’s 9. Luke Mackie, Ben Burns and Will Van Waveren played great games for Glenmore while Treveor Robertson, Josh Graccogna and Jake Miller were strong contributors for Yeppoon.
At Boyne Island Oval both Brothers and BITS Saints were out of the blocks fast with a high scoring first term. Brothers were on top early however struggled in the last three quarters kicking only four goals. The BITS Saints were dominant after quarte time pilling on 18 goals. Scott Muller was a focal point for the Saints up forward kicking 7 goals while Darren Boase chipped in with 5. Aaron Ferguson, Adam Williams, Cam White and Daryl Newsome tried hard for Brothers. Best players for BITS Saints were Scott Muller, Paul Caveny, Nathan Shippard and Ricky McClure. After 10 rounds the Panthers are clear on top followed by Glenmore, BITS Saints, Gladstone, Yeppoon and Brother. Yeppoon and Brothers still have a chance at making the finals but they will have to win the majority of their matches and hope that other results go their way.
In the reserves Panthers got up by 6 points in a thriller against Gladstone. Brendan Cooper from Panthers and Stewart Gilmore from Gladstone were good for their respective teams. The BITS Saints smashed Brothers with Danny Palmer kicking 11 goals for the Saints. The Bulls got over Yeppoon in another close game with Murray Payne making a comeback kicking 4 goals teaming up well with his younger son Darcy Payne.
