AFL Capricornia 2013 Premiership
The Rockampton Panthers could actually find themselves in third position on the ladder after their match against the Gladstone Mudcrabs at the Rockhampton Cricket Ground this Saturday.
The Muddies have only won 1 game this season when they beat Brothers by 56 points at Kele Park last Saturday.
Gladstone are no-where near the powerful unit that contested the grand final against BITS last season despite the fact they still have the mercurial Ricky Windridge in their line up and forward Reece Sadlier keeps on keeping on with another 6 goals to his credit last Saturday.
Panthers managed to emerge victorious over arch rival the Glenmore Bulls at home at the RCG last Saturday and both clubs are now on 8 premiership points though Panthers languish well behind on percentage.
As a yardstick, Glenmore defeated Gladstone by just 3 goals in Rd 3 at Clinton Park in Gladstone, so depending on the availability of key players the Muddies could still surprise everyone.
Panthers Vice President Sam Gudgeon said that the club is confident of a season boosting performance against the Muddies.
Former Northern Territory players John and Calvin Hockley starred for the club last Saturday and their performance added to full forward’s Aaron Pianta’s 8 goals was a clear indication that the club could be headed for a finals berth in 3 months time
At Boyne Island, reigning premiers BITS Saints play bottom Club Brothers and are expected to win by a big margin.
Most interest will be on leading goalkicker Luke O’Shea (BITS) who has already kicked 23 goals for the season and his attempt at the League leading goal scorer award.
BITS were beaten for the first time by the Yeppoon Swans last Saturday and will be keen to assert their dominance in the league again.
The Glenmore Bulls will have the home ground advantage at Stenlake Park when they play top team the Yeppoon Swans.
On any normal occasion this year Yeppoon would have to be hot favourites to beat the Bulls but a heavy and water logged Stenlake Park could well prove to be an equaliser against the normally fast moving and skilful Swans.
Glenmore have been sitting in third place but a loss to the Swans and providing Panthers beat Gladstone will see the Bulls slip to fourth position.
