The first game of the weekend between 2nd placed BROTHERS and bottom of the table PANTHERS proved exactly why the teams are in their current position on the ladder. Brothers dominated all areas of the game and won by 133 points.
Panthers were down a few players and just could not go with the Brothers team which is absolutely flying at the moment. They ran out the game brilliantly kicking twelve goals in the final quarter. It is the depth of the side which is the reason behind their form at the moment. There are a number of players who can rotate through the middle of the ground and provide the delivery of the football into the forward line. Steve Smithwick kicked six and Aiden Colbourne eleven for the winners.
The second game was the closest of the weekend, GLENMORE getting home by 13 points over BITS. Many would have expected BITS to win this match, however it was the Bulls who were more desperate for the football.
Both sides went into the clash equal on points and were needing a win to go in front in the race for the finals. Glenmore had fourteen more scoring shots in the opening half and the lead could have been much greater than 29 points had the Bulls kicked straight. Whilst BITS fought back in the second half they left their run too late and couldn't close the gap. BITS have now lost three in a row and with Brothers next week it isn't getting any easier for them.
The final game of the round went to script, YEPPOON too strong at home, belting GLADSTONE by 96 points. The Swans were always going to prove a big challenge for the Muddies, and this was made even harder by the number of players 'doubling up' for Gladstone. In total, there were twelve players in the senior side who had already played a game earlier in the day and this proved pivotal in the final term.
Whilst Yeppoon had controlled the opening three quarters, the Muddies had not been blown away. In the final term the Swans kicked eight goals and doubled their lead over Gladstone. A disapointing way to finish the game for the travelling side, yet it was the toll of tired players which made it easy for the home side to do as they liked in the last quarter.
Leeland Gribble dominated from the outset kicking two early goals, finishing with five, and clearly being the best on ground for the afternoon.
