We are now at the half way point of the season and the ladder is really starting to take shape. There are two teams which are a step above the rest in the competition, Yeppoon and Brothers, whilst you could throw a blanket over the rest.
Although Panthers have only won the single game for the year, they pushed Glenmore a fortnight ago and then proved too strong for BITS last weekend. If they continue with this form in the second half of the year they can't be counted out of finals contention. Meanwhile, Gladstone will be fighting it out with Glenmore and BITS for the last couple of finals spots, all teams currently sitting on even points.
The first game of the weekend has second placed BROTHERS at home to the PANTHERS. Both teams are coming off strong wins last weekend, however Panthers play an even bigger challenge this week. With them having to knock off a couple of big scalps to get back into the mix, they will be hoping to take it up to Brothers this weekend. However, this challenge will be made more difficult without arguably their best player, Joel Ralph, away with work.
Brothers have been absolutely flying lately. They have demolished sides in recent weeks and their win over reigning premier Yeppoon last weekend shows that they may just be the best side in the competition. They are solid at both ends of the ground whilst the likes of young players Charlie Ampt and John Sleaford running the ball through the middle of the ground has proven too much for opposition teams to combat.
The next game between GLENMORE and BITS should be an absolute cracking contest. Both sides have let their form slip in recent weeks and will be desperate to get a win on the board. When they last met BITS were too strong and ran out 6 goal winners, yet the Bulls will be desperate to change the result this time around.
The Bulls now sit outside the top four, and will need a number of players to step up today. Whilst captain Toby Payne always leads from the front, it will be up to those around him to give the lift they neeed. The younger players have been the key for BITS so far this year and will need to do it again if they are to win this one after losing the past couple.
The final game of the round has GLADSTONE making the trip to YEPPOON. The Swans will be desperate to bounce back from last week after losing their first game of the year. At the same time the Muddies put in their best performance of the year and will be hoping they can continue the form this week.
The big challenge facing the Muddies will be the number of players available for the game. With a couple out with injury still, they need all others available if they are to give Yeppoon a real challenge. In their first clash at Clinton Park the Muddies stuck with them for three quarters before being blown away in the last.
Yeppoon will be once again looking to Daniel Watkin who has 27 goals for the year and if the Muddies can contain him they are in with a chance.
