The rematch between Yeppoon and BITS was expected to be a close game and it proved to be for the first half before the travelling Swans completely dominated BITS.
The Saints started the game well and had the lead at quarter time before Yeppoon managed to hit the front in a tight opening half, taking a 12 point lead into the main break. After the break it was all one way traffic, the Swans dominating all aspects of the play to kick 13 goals to 4 in the second half and running away with a 67 point win. Daniel Watkin continued his recent form, booting 12 majors for the winners.
There was a number of A-grade players doubling up for the home side, something that coach Adam Dickenson is not too happy about. Talking to the local paper he was quoted as saying “We’ve got to do something about it . . . we’ve got to sacrifice one team and at the moment it’s A-grade getting sacrificed and that shouldn’t be the way.” With many clubs familiar with the position it is a valid point made by Dickenson.
The next game was between Brothers and Gladstone, the result vastly different to when the teams met in Round 1. The Muddies were too strong at home in the opening game, yet Brothers turned the table and recorded a huge 88 point win over a depleted Muddies line up.
The Muddies stuck with the Brothers for the first term before slipping away in the second. The home side managed to pile on 7 goals in the second term whilst restricting the young Gladstone side to a single goal. Whilst the Muddies fought hard in the third quarter and reduced the lead, a 9 goal final term from Brothers proved far too much.
The Muddies had 9 players doubling up for the day due to a horror run with injury and work commitments. They have not been travelling too well over the past month, yet once they regain some more experienced players they have shown in patches that they can match it with any team in the competition.
Brothers consolidated their spot in second position on the ladder and look to be every bit as good as Yeppoon. They had 14 different goal kickers on the weekend and it is their forward/midfield rotation that is the best in the league.
The game between Glenmore and Panthers went down to the wire, the Bulls hanging on by 7 points.
The first quarter was completely dominated by the home side, the Bulls racing to a 44 point lead and not allowing the struggling Panthers to kick a goal. At the break a few questions were asked of the Panthers players, the coach questioning the pride of the players.
To their credit Panthers fought their way back into the game, reducing the margin in each of the following quarters. In the end the slow start proved too much to overcome, Glenmore winning the game 11.11.77 to 10.10.70.
Isaac Kielly was BOG for the second time this year whilt Joel Ralph continued to lead from the front for the Panthers.
