The first ever Capricornia schoolgirls side traveled down to Bundaberg to take on the Wide Bay schoolgirls over the representative weekend. They played in a curtain raiser to the senior game and competed in a hard fought game.
The skills from both sides were very impressive and the attack on the football was fantastic. In the first quarter the home side kicked with the wind and managed to gain a lead over the visiting Capricornia side. With the breeze making conditions difficult for the players the Capricornia girls were forced to run and carry the ball against the breeze.
The second quarter proved to be a great battle with Capricornia fighting back with the advantage of the wind. The girls began to get first hands on the ball at the contest and with young gun Megan Hunt finding plenty of the footy the Wide Bay lead was reduced to only three goals at half time.
The Wide Bay team regrouped at the main break and proved to be too quick and skillful for the Capricornia girls in the second half. Playing hard, team orientated football, the Wide Bay team ended up winning 12.5.77 to Capricornia 4.10.34.
This contest will hopefully become an annual game with both sides representing their region fantastically well.
