It was a round of interesting results in round 4 of the Trend Interiors Carpet & Tile Court AFL Capricornia competition. Rivalry Round lived up to its name with a number of close matches played between old foes. Gladstone Mudcrabs showed it will be a premiership threat with a win over the top of the table BITS Saints. The BITS Saints were in control for the majority of the game leading at all the changes. However Gladstone produced in the final quarter with 4 goals to BITS Saints one. Mick Keller was dominant for Gladstone up forward with 4 goals while the reliable Darren Boase also kicked 4 for the Saints. The younger players for Gladstone stood up with strong performances from Ben Coles and Reece Saddlier. Lucas Hall and Adam Dickenson were best for the BITS Saints.
Yeppoon Swans registered its first win for the competition with a strong display against Brothers at Swan Park. AFL Capricornia representative player Wes Hawke kicked 11 goals and Rod Chapman kicked 5 in Yeppoon’s 212 point win. Yeppoon shared the goal scoring around with 15 individual goal kickers. It is disappointing result for Brothers who looked to be back on track after a disappointing 2007. Daniel and Cameron Watkins, Wes Hawke and Adam Johnson stood out for Yeppoon. Brothers have a bright future ahead with strong performances from younger players Matt Pollock and Cameron Stitt. Paul Maloney was the only goal scorer for brothers with 3.
It was a low scoring affair at Stenlake Park between Panthers and Glenmore Bulls. The Panthers were on top early with a two goal lead at quarter time. Glenmore clawed back to be level with the Panthers at half time after a physical second quarter. It was tight all the way through the second half with both sides pulling away at different stages. Both the Panthers and Glenmore had opportunities to pull away in the last quarter but were let down by inaccurate kicking. Experience prevailed for the Panthers who won by 4 points. Panthers were led well by Barry Morris, Marcus Britt and Brett McAleese. Best for Glenmore included Aaron Slater, Tyson Payne and Aaron Russell. After 4 rounds Gladstone are on top on percentage followed by BITS Saints, Panthers and Glenmore. Yeppoon are fifth after their win on the weekend followed by Brothers who are yet to have a win.
In the reserves it was a draw between Panthers and Glenmore while Yeppoon and BITS won their respective matches. BITS Saints are on top of the Reserve Grade Ladder followed by Panthers, Glenmore, Gladstone, Yeppoon and Brothers. Next week’s matches:
