Andy Lovell from the Gold Coast Suns has been confirmed as this year’s guest coach at the AFLCJ's annual development Camp held at the Cooee Bay Recreation centre. The camp is being conducted over the coming weekend of the 16th, 17th and 18th of November.
On the 17th Andy will take the camp participants for a training session for an hour and a half, putting the youngsters through a range of drills aiming to help develop basic skills and fundamental decision making.
After lunch Andy will conduct a free coaching seminar from 1:15 till 2:30. This is an opportunity for local coaches / School volunteers to attend and pick the brains of an AFL coach. All coaches are encouraged to attend. The coaching seminar would not have been possible without the help of funding from the state government sport and recreation Active Inclusion Program. For this we are most grateful.
Coaches / School Volunteers are encouraged to attend both the training session and coaching seminar. Coaches who attend both will be eligible for re accreditation for free.
As a player Andy was recruited to the Melbourne Demons from Glenorchy in Tasmania. Mainly a Ruck Rover come forward Andy’s biggest haul in a game was 8 goals V’s the Tigers. Andy played for the Demons from 1988 till 1995 playing 121 games and kicking 146 goals.
He was then traded to the West Coast Eagles in 1996 where he played 43 games and kicked 20 goals retiring in 1998. Andy finished his playing career on a total of 164 games and 166 goals.
As a coach Andy has been at the Eagles (Assistant 1999), Geelong (Assistant 2005-2006), St Kilda development coach, coach of the Sandringham Zebras (2007 – 2009)
Andy joined the Gold Coast Sun’s as an assistant coach to Guy McKenna of whom he played with at the West coast Eagles.
