YEPPOON VS GLENMORE
Youth on youth, that is what this weekend’s preliminary final presents. Both Yeppoon and Glenmore have young players that love to run and take the game on, which should mean we are in for an entertaining contest.
Glenmore would be licking their wounds after last weekend’s hammering from BITS, while the Swans would be bathing in confidence after their come from behind win over the Mudcrabs a fortnight ago. Last time these 2 teams met Glenmore demolished Yeppoon, but don’t expect that this weekend. The Swans have got their mojo back and have awoken from their slumber. Glenmore will have to be very careful because if they don’t bring their A game they could find themselves going out in straights sets which would be a disaster after the season they have had.
The midfield presents the most intriguing contest and this is where the game will be won or lost. Both sides have players that can win the contested football and also those outside runners that if the opposition don’t respect they will tear you apart.
The defence of both teams is probably their weakest link, so whatever midfield can provide clean football to their forwards will go a long way to towards winning the contest. The smaller and often windy Swan Park will favour the home side, so it will be interesting to see how Glenmore try to nullify this advantage.
Expect a cracking contest with perhaps tempers boiling over at times, Glenmore will need to have some breathing room late in the game otherwise the home crowd maybe enough to see the Swans get over the line.
While winning will require effort from all 22 players, I have singled out a player from each team that I believe holds the key to their team and could be very influential in defining Saturday's result.
Yeppoon – Matt Wallin
Glenmore – Tyson Payne
Prediction: Glenmore by 11 points
