A ripper of a clash under lights at Gladstone, Yeppoon continue to dominate and Brothers prove they may be a force in the league this season.
In the game between league leader Yeppoon and bottom of the table Panthers the scrit went to plan with the Swans winning comfortably by 61 points. Many expected the margin to be much greater, considering the recent form of Yeppoon as well as playing in front of their home crowd.
In the end the Swans were too strong across the ground, increasing their lead at each break and finishing with 10 different goal kickers. Dan Watkin finished with six goals, Chapman three and Wes Hawke with three in a dominant display.
Brothers were the most impressive on the weekend, smashing Glenmore at Stenlake Park by 79 points. With what was expected to be a close game Brothers had a flying start and were up by 20 points at 1/4 time. They never looked back from there and whilst they were impressive up forward it was the strength of their backline which held the Bulls goalless in the second quarter which proved to be the difference.
Brothers just had two many attacking options with 11 players kicking goals, plenty of those contributed by the midfield brigade. Brady, Colbourne and Moore all ended up with four goals whilst Jason Dawson was amongst the best players on the ground.
In the last game of the round, played under lights and an impressive crowd, BITS proved too strong for Gladstone getting home by 9 goals. The scoreline does not reflect how even the contest was for the first three quarters of the game. The Muddies got off to a flying start in front of their supporters gaining a 19 point lead in the opening term. BITS came out strong in the second quarter after their poor start, kicking five goals whilst not allowing the Muddies to kick a goal.
The third quarter was a display of fantastic physical football with the Muddies controlling the football to regain the lead only to make a couple of costly mistakes late in the quarter which gifted BITS two easy goals. The Saints continued on with this momentum after the final break to kick 8 goals in the last term and run out comfortable winners. Swinkels, Hall and Caveny were best for BITS whilst Shane Eilola, Seager and Mafrici were the best for Gladstone.
