In a weekend which had Yeppoon continuing their undefeated run, Gladstone returning to the winners list and Brothers showing they are the real deal, there were also some fantastic individual performances.
In the game between Yeppoon and Glenmore, the Swans had a resounding 82 point victory. The performances of the Yeppoon side this year had proven to the others in the league that they are ready to defend their premeirship, however the win on the weekend was their best performance so far.
In a dominant display of football where Yeppoon had 22 more scoring shots than the Bulls, Yeppoon clearly controlled the play. They are a team which runs hard through the middle of the ground and with the quality of their onallers they hurt the opposition when given time and space. Chapman had a day out up forward kicking 9 goals for the winners.
The second game had Gladstone winning their second game of the year, getting up by 27 points against the Panthers. Both sides were desperate for a win and it was very close going into the half time break with the Muddies up by 3 goals. Aiden Hearn was providing a lot of opportunity around goal, the 16 year old having a couple on the board to half time.
After the break injuries to a couple of key Panthers players slowed them down and the Muddies were able to extend the lead. In the end some undisciplied play by Gladstone cost them a couple of goals late in an otherwise impressive display by the team. Joel Ralph tried hard for the Panthers, however it was the Gladstone forward options in Sadlier 4 goals, Hearn 4 goals and Patton 3 goals that proved too strong for the Panthers.
The final game of the round had Brothers pull off a stunning upset over the home side BITS. The 26 point win was the first time that Brothers had beaten BITS down at Boyne Island for over 5 years. In what was a fantastic team effort, Brothers led from start to finish to secure one of their best wins in some time.
Many would have expected BITS to win the game quite comfortably, yet it was the attack on the ball from the Brothers players along with a contribution from all 22 players which proved to be the difference. Aiden Colbourne kicked 7 goals to take his tally to 12 from his past two games. He is arguably the best small forward in the competition and a player that will surely come under pressure from opposition taggers if he continues with his good form.
