Dear Player,
Congratulations on being selected for the AFL Capricornia summer development squad training 2010/11. The summer development squad is designed to give prospective Capricornia, Country Kookaburra, Gold Coast Suns Academy and Queensland State players a pre-season training program including resistance, running and skill training as similar and on par to those used in the city and coastal regions.
This will give you the best opportunity to progress as far you can through the AFL QLD player pathway during the 2011 football season. Summer development is also designed to keep you as fit as possible and prepare players from our league for the 2011 season. If you love and are serious about your football and want to use the summer period to improve your skills and conditioning then you need to fully commit to the program attending 80 – 100% of scheduled training and testing sessions.
There have been a number of players from AFL Capricornia that have dedicated themselves to the Summer Development Program who have moved onto bigger and better things in their respected AFL careers:
- Gavin Urquhart, Glenmore Bull Juniors / Morningside Panthers QAFL / AIS / North Melbourne Kangaroos.
- David Armitage, Yeppoon Development Camp / Morningside Panthers QAFL / AIS / / St Kilda Saints.
- Zac Smith, State Team U’18’s/Zillmere Eagles QAFL / Gold Coast Suns/VFL Team of the year.
- Jack Ford, BITS Saints Juniors/U’18’s Country Kookaburras / Labrador Tigers U’18’s 2010.
- Paul O’Shea, Brothers Roos Juniors /Redland Bombers QAFL / Western Bulldogs.
This is just the list of gun players from our region in the past four years to further themselves as an AFL Footballer. There are also other Capricornia players not on this list that are still playing state league football in the QAFL or otherwise. All of these players participated in Summer Development Training and have gone through our player talent pathway, e.g. Capricornia Cyclones/Central Queensland/Country Kookaburras/State Teams etc.
REMEMBER it is our job to provide the program; it is yours to provide the hard work and dedication. If you have other training/work commitments it is your responsibility to let us know so we can work out other arrangements for your training program.
