Round 2 of the AFLC Frenchville Sports Club Premiership saw the unveiling of some significant facility developments across our region. In Rockhampton it was the Glenmore Bulls that were setting the town alight as they unvieled their Ground Lighting Upgrade. Club volunteers have been working hard to source funding through the State Governments 'Get Playing Places and Spaces Program' (Contributing $100,000), AFL QLD Funding ($40,000) and Local Government Funding ($20,000) as well as the contribution from the Club itself.
Life Member, Wayne Redsell, welcomed everyone to Stenlake Park for the Clubs inaugural night game and handed over to Local MP for Labour Barry O'Rourke. Brad Matheson, Club and Competition Manager for the Region spoke on behalf of AFLQ.
The Bulls christened the lights in style, and the strong crowd was treated to two very strong wins in A Grade and Reserve Grade by the Glenmore Bulls.
Whilst down the Road at Boyne Oval Club President Andrew McMahon was proud to unveil the Club new Clubroom and Admin Facilities.
Andrew said that the project was made possible thanks to the Gladstone Regional Councils 2017 Facilities Assistance Program, which supports projects that develop and enhance sports and recreation facilities that allow for increased participation of physical activity. This program contributed $80,000. The Saints contributed $40,000 from funds raised by their Members whilst the Cricket Club contributed $20,000. Andrew said "We have developed the building to be utilised by alluser groups that access the Jacaranda Precinct.A Large Awning for Shade, Office Facilities, equipment store room and function room". The new facility was well received by Members past and present that attended the Clubs Past Players Day. And they were treated to a top class game of footy as the Saints came within a whisker of ending Yeppoon Swans undefeated run in the region.
Facility developments like these not only benefit the Clubs involved but the wider footballing community. It promotes a quality image for our code in the region and we look forward to many other developments occuring within AFL Facilities in the near future
