Round 9 of the trend Interiors Carpet Court AFL C season produced three very evenly contested matches with the match of the round Panthers v Saints clash resulting in the biggest winning margin.
The Panthers proved too strong for the Saints after half time running out 70 point winners, while at Clinton Park the Bulls inability to capatilise on a blistering first quarter allowed the muddies to grind out the win by 25 points. In the final game of the round the Swans traveled to Kele Park and always had control of a tight game running out eventual 40 point winners. Winners in the Reserves were Gladstone, Yeppoon and BITS.
Previewing this week round 10 matches the match of the round will see the second placed Mudcrabs taking on the third placed Saints at Boyne Oval in a big game that could decide second spot on the ladder with only six rounds to play. In other games the Panthers host Brothers at the RCG and in the final game of the round the Bulls travel to Swan Park to take on Yeppoon.
The Panthers have proved with out a doubt that they are the real deal in 2007 and it will take a good side to prevent them completing the home and away season undefeated. There appears to be plenty of depth available at the RCG this being evident after last weeks backs to the wall win over the saint where the Panthers had 8 players missing from their best side. The Panthers midfield goes from strength to strength and with a big body like Peter Penaia to throw up forward they will take some stopping. Brothers have been much more competitive in the second round of matches for the year and will take it right up to the Panthers although I can not see an upset brewing with the Panthers at home.
The Bulls once again showed glimpses of the potential they have against Gladstone last week in the first quarter after they kicked away to an 8 goal to 1 lead. The Glenmore supporters must be frustrated with their team's inability to put 4 consistent quarters together on a regular basis. The Swans who grinded out a hard fought win over the Roos last week will need to be a lot better against the bulls at home or they could find the bulls breathing down their necks for fourth spot on the table. I am expecting a entertaining game that could go either way.
In the match of the round the Muddies will need to bring their "A" game to Boyne Oval when they take on the Saints stinging after their drubbing at the hands of the Panthers in round 9. The winner of this clash could go along way to consolidating the vital second spot and the double chance come finals time. The Saints will be very hungry but will be well aware of the damage the muddies can do after their last round loss to their cross town rivals. This should be a blockbuster with both sides throwing everything at each other.
