Round 5 of the Trend Interiors Premiership completed this week resulted in close contests across the region. The biggest winning margin was 18 points by Glenmore against Gladstone followed by Brothers over Yeppoon by 14 points and Panthers in their first victory over Boyne Island in 10 years with a 1 point after the siren victory.
It was Gordon Oxenham who was last the toast of the club in 1998 when he retired from football to make a comeback this season who kicked the winning point after the siren for the win. At the young age of 39 Gordon will celebrate his next birthday this year showed the way kicking 5 goals for the match. It was Boyne Island who held the upper hand having 33 points to nil on the scoreboard at the first break and are now wondering what went wrong. Yeppoon Swans almost caused another boilover in round 5 when they trailed competion leaders by only 2 points at the final change. With a strong wind at their back Brothers were always going to be hard to overhaul eventually running out winners 3.0 5.1 6.5 8.11 (59) to the Swans 1.2 3.2 6.3 7.3 (45)
Glenmore were always in control in the remaining match played at Clinton Park, Gladstone against the Mudcrabs winning the match 5.1 9.5 16.10 16.13 (109) to 3.2 5.3 8.5 14.7 (91). After a five goal opening term they maintained an 8 goal advantage at the final break. The Muddies gained respectability in the score by restricting the visitors to 3 behinds only while the posting 6 goals themselves. Shane Fowler kicked 5 goals for the Bulls and Michael Keller posted 6 for the Mudcrabs.
Meanwhile the first 10 goal haul was registered by Richie Spittall for the Muddies in the reserves match against the Bulls where they defeated the Bulls 4.2 7.7 9.8 15.11 (101) to 0.1 1.2 2.7 3.8 (26).
