Round 5 Reviews
Glenmore Vs Brothers
The Bulls are looking like the real deal this year, although it is early in the season, their sights are set on definite finals contention. The young side gave Yeppoon an eight goal dusting last weekend so they will be full of confidence heading this afternoon’s game. U’17 players Luke Saunders and Brandon Chadwick bagged four goals between them last week and continue to improve with confidence every game.
The Roos haven’t had a start to a season like this in a long time, still without a win on the board and a 186 point loss to BITS last week; it’s going to be a long season for the Brethren. Still with a couple of gun players out with injuries Coach Roy West will be praying for rain to make it an even contest of not skill but who’s harder at it which is the type of game The Roos like to play. Brothers need to be hard at it all day if they are to get close to the Bulls.
Glenmore at home are always hard to beat with the big crowds that get down to Stenlake Park, I predict Glenmore by seven goals.
Yeppoon Vs Panthers
Yeppoon seem to still be competitive after an up and down start to the season, Matty Wallin, Wes Hawke and Sam Nicholls are consistent every week which make them the foundations for the Swans at the moment. If there was a team to spark something out of nothing it will be the Swans, both teams seem equal counterparts, Yeppoon must bring their A game to get on top of the Panthers.
Panthers have got a good side on paper, after five rounds they are sitting in the same boat as Yeppoon, having an up and down start to the season. Last week against the Muddies they were outclassed in the second half, If they are to win this weekend Panthers must run out a full game of football, not just two or three quarters.
From an early indication these two teams will be fighting for a finals chance come September. Expect a close fiery and physical game. Panthers by twelve points.
Gladstone Vs BITS
Gladstone are looking the goods coming into round 5 after playing all teams in the Capricornia League, they have managed to nurture young players from juniors over the last couple of years into quality senior players this year such as Cam O’Grady, Aaron Patton, Aiden Hearn, Daniel Clay, Rusty Parnaby and Liam Eilola; whilst picking up some very handy footballers. There’s no doubt that this weekend’s game will be the Muddies biggest challenge this year.
The Saints are still undefeated heading into round 5 this weekend; Coach Alan Watkin will be looking forward to playing the Muddies today, with a lot of players up for selection it will be interesting to see who is picked in the final team. I’m sure the Saints would love to play this one at home but there will be just as much away supporters as home supporters at Clinton Park this afternoon. BITS are a classy side so expect to see very good football from both sides.
With both teams in great form this will be a blockbuster game, the Port Curtis derby is a great rivalry, all AFL and sport lovers in general should head down to Clinton Park for a 2:30 start this afternoon.
