Trinity Bay State High School will compete against the best schools from Mackay and Townsville after winning the Far Northern leg of the NAB Northern States Cup.
Eight high schools fielded teams in the Far Northern under-14 pool competition.
In the semi-finals, Trinity Bay proved too strong for Smithfield State High School while Djarragun College was too quick for St Andrew’s Catholic College.
The grand final was a nailbiter played in windy conditions at Cazalys last Wednesday.
Trinity Bay skipped out to a 13-point halftime lead before Djarragun stormed back in the third quarter.
Trinity Bay rallied to eventually win 6.6 (42) to 6.2 (38).
Trinity Bay’s Milton Miskin was named the player of the carnival.
Trinity Bay will compete in the next level of the competition in Townsville tomorrow.
NAB donated a $50 savings account to the best player from each team in the pool competition.
The winners were: Willy Baird (St Andrew’s Catholic College), Alex Forbes (Mossman State High School), Nick Meadows (Smithfield State High School), Cyril McPherson (Woree High School), Joseph Kibusu (Djarragun College), Milton Miskin (Trinity Bay State High School), Grant Phillips (St Augustine’s College), Travis Argoon (Gordonvale High School).
