PORT Douglas has continued its off-season recruiting campaign with the signature of another state league player.
Hot on the heels of signing WAFL ruckman Craig Shaw late last year, the Crocs have added former WAFL, VFL and SANFL big man Jeff Smith to its list.
Smith, 25, standing at 199cm tall, has played the past three seasons with SANFL club Glenelg.
Before that, the versatile big man was rookie listed by Geelong after a one-year stint with WAFL club East Perth.
While he never broke into Geelong's AFL side, he spent two years with the Cats' VFL outfit.
Crocs coach Paul Cox said the club snared Smith's signature while he was holidaying in Port Douglas.
"He's keen as mustard to come up here and he should be good for us," Cox said.
Smith said he spoke to other Cairns-based clubs but preferred the laid back lifestyle of Port Douglas.
"It was more so a lifestyle decision, the lifestyle is more important to me than the career per se," he said.
"The last few years I've been training five days a week, playing on Saturdays, and then recovery on Sundays, which has been demanding.
"So I'm looking forward to getting up there, the change of lifestyle, and giving it a crack."
Smith played 52 games for Glenelg in three years, kicking 36 goals.
He has played up forward, in the ruck, defence and even on the ball while in Adelaide.
He told The Cairns Post while he preferred playing up forward, he was happy wherever the Crocs coaching staff played him.
