Manunda can draw level with Saints on the AFL Cairns ladder with a win tonight at Cazalys, but in a buck from the form of previous years it would not see the teams share top spot on the ladder.
The powerful clubs, who have contested the past two grand finals, find themselves in third and fourth position on the ladder after seven rounds of footy, with the undefeated North Cairns Tigers on top and Port Douglas Crocs (one loss) in second.
Saints (4-2) have already lost more games than they did in the last regular season, with Manunda (3-3) steady despite another disjointed off-season. "We're certainly confident we'll be competitive," Hawks player-coach Clinton Gribble said.
"A bit of experience was injected last week against Souths and that helped and I think if we can dictate play and win that contested footy we'll be a chance."
First bounce is at 8pm tonight at Cazalys.
