If there were any doubts about the status of the North Cairns Tigers defence of the AFL Cairns Women’s League premiership, they were quickly quashed on Saturday. The Tigers were ruthless in dismantling Centrals Trinity Bulldogs, allowing their opponents to score one solitary behind in a 39-point win whitewash at Crathern Park.
The Bulldogs were left without potency up forward with key goalkicker Kat Fatnowna unavailable. While the Tigers failed to kick a major in the opening quarter their defence was also able to keep the Bulldogs scoreless for the first half.
The competition now appears to be a race between the Tigers and last year’s grand finalists Manunda Hawks. The Tigers, however, hold the psychological edge having beaten the Hawks by a goal earlier this month.
