AFL Cairns has received the great news that it has been allocated $33,000 to upgrade the second oval at Crathern Park, Trinity Beach. The ‘back oval’ had gradually fallen into disrepair over a period of time to the point where its irregular shape and “sensitive weed” surface made it virtually unplayable.
The State Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund has provided the valuable funding that will enable Stage 1 of a redevelopment program to go ahead. This will include significant earthmoving works, a complete top-dressing program and re-turfing. To be overseen by turf-wizard Rod Cade, the works should be completed by January and ready for season 2010 action.
The revitalised field will provide an excellent extension to the Crathern Park facility, with Centrals-Trinity Beach Junior, Senior and Women’s football clubs and Barron River Cricket Club now being to train and play with little or no interruption.
The Redevelopment of the Junior Oval was proudly funded by the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
