South Cairns recruit Luke Powell has not played a game for the club yet, but he's not lacking confidence ahead of their first task at Crathern Park tomorrow.
The ruckman captained Manunda to the grand final last season before heading to Fretwell Park - where he also plays cricket for Mulgrave.
The softly-spoken giant will hope to dominate the stoppages against Centrals Trinity Beach in his Cutters debut.
He said the team around him at South Cairns was good enough to beat every team in the competition.
"I honestly think we can," he said.
"There haven't been any massive recruitments but the club kept what they had and it's a good team."
He said long-time player and former coach Dan Lock had done most of the hands-on training during the pre-season, with head coach Grant Russell working in a more over-arching role.
"That's worked really well. Dan gets on with the lads, is relatable and knows his footy and then Grant comes in with his take on things as well," Powell said. "I guess it's a different structure, but it's working."
Centrals fell short against Port Douglas when they travelled north last Thursday night.
Souths have welcomed back gun junior Damien Dewis after a stint with Labrador and should benefit from Powell's impact at the bounce.
