NNFL AGM 27/8/15
Vice Presidents Year in Review
At the 2015 AGM, we had no nominations for President for the year meaning the 4 Club Presidents were to take charge, I think this year was one which saw all clubs working well together to keep the competition alive, so thank you to those involved.
Unfortunately due to the downturn of town, we had to make some changes to the NNFL season and bylaws – these were:
Reducing season to 12 games down from 15 & reducing on field players to 16 and implementing the “even up” rule.
Shortened Quarters to 17 mins to accommodate both games on Saturday Nights
This seems to have been pivotal to the NNFL and clubs surviving and being competitive, as this year we only had the 1 forfeit and that was in the last round during School holidays.
This year we played the NPFL in Newman for the first time, unfortunately the result didn’t go our way but I would like to thank Ben Chapman (Coach), Craig Hoyer (Assist Coach), Tommy Nelson (Capt) and Musha Taylor for their enthusiastic approach to this game, it’s always an honour to play for your Town and everyone put in a fantastic effort, thanks also to Lou and the Clubs for their efforts in a successful after match presentation. This will hold us in good stead for future interleague games between NNFL and NPFL.
Sponsorship is pivotal to the success of the competition, BHP Billiton have always been generous with their community grants and no doubt will continue to do so, while town is becoming smaller we need to look at different options for sponsorship and where the sponsorship dollar goes to benefit Local Football.
Thanks must go to Chris Wade from Linkforce who was more than happy to sponsor the league financially for 2015/16 season; Linkforce came on board about mid-season. This is great to see that we can still obtain sponsors so deep into the season.
Umpiring is always a challenge; the NNFL will need to make an effort to ensure we have a number of umpires next year and into the future. Thanks to Chris and Wayne for their efforts in 2015, but we need more Guys (and Girls) to step up.
As a WACFL Board member, I have spoken to Joe Georgiades, who would welcome a call from the new NNFL committee to come up and visit the League and Clubs to assist in developing a business plan/working model for the coming years. Joe and the WACFL committee can provide valuable experience and assistance in helping to continually grow the NNFL.
Congratulations must go to Saints for their very successful year, taking out not only the Premiership but individual honours with Sachin Barr winning McLennan & Haines Medal and Nathan Ramsay Leading Goal Kicker. The Presentation night was brought back to the Clubs and this year held at Tigers, thanks must go to Nic Willis, Brad and Mel, Lou and Ben & Emma for their work in making the night successful.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the NNFL on being awarded Life Membership, I’m still quite shocked and honoured by this, so thank you, this award was extremely unexpected.
Lastly a huge thank you to Lou Lockyer for all her efforts this year to keep the League successful, this was shown in Lou on being awarded the Inaugural Bill Knox Award for NNFL Person of the Year.
Good Luck in 2016 to all involved in the NNFL.
Regards
Ken Rowe
