The win was set up with a five goal to one third period, helping stretch a 10-point halftime buffer into a match-winning 34 points.
Coach Cam de Gooyer led the way with a five-goal haul, helped by side kick Justin Marriot, who chipped in with three.
Played in tough, windy conditions, de Gooyer praised the efforts of his young brigade, who responded to a half-time message to come out firing on all cylinders.
``Definitely being on the road and them being a bit of an unknown side, a win in round one is a very positive sign,'' de Gooyer said.
``All the mail we had was that they were young and quick and they play a similar game style to a lot of others sides.
``Once we figured that out, I thought we matched up well and had some good moves and our pressure enabled us to get on top.
``It was a bit of see-saw battle in the first half but the way we came out after halftime, that's when we started to get on top and played the style of game we want to play.
``There was a bit of a question mark about how we came out after breaks in our practice matches and the way they responded was fantastic.''
Midfielder Marcus Fitze was adjudged best afield, captain Tex Perkins showed his class in a great display while Josh Roberts and Ben MacMurray were solid contributors.
